DO NOT RENT HERE

Pros: Doormen are awesome. Maintenance staff are friendly. Good views. First year here was okay actually, but it has gotten pretty bad lately. Cons: - Constant construction outside my window means I cannot have phone calls in my apt during the day. - One day of construction work filled our rooms with dust. When we complained they sent a guy with a bottle of Windex and a paper towel to "clean up the dust for us". Ha! - Elevators are consistently broken. Or else the "sleep" which means three out of four elevators are stuck on higher floors until someone uses them, so the building waits for one elevator. - Our room fills with smell of cigarette smoke. Not sure where it comes from but maintenance has been in once to stop any airleaks in the apt - no success. - Fire alarm kept going off and even though I replaced a battery the maintenance man just did the same thing saying he didn't have any new ones. We never got it fixed and ultimately took the battery out. - Sink drips. - Toilet in one bathroom runs nonstop. You might say these are minor things you can get fixed. Well you get tired of fighting and after a while just give up and resolve to find a new location. Oh, and they just lost my rent check and though it has been debited from my account, they put the onus on me to prove that I mailed them a check. Please please look elsewhere. I haven't even mentioned the monopoly that RCN has on cable in the building, or the fact that Mgmt added a $5/mth "green" charge. We called about this and they said they weren't doing anything green, but wanted everyone to be aware of living better. Seems like a scam to me. Oh, and before I forget... they also have free internet in the building. I went down to get a password and it works like a hotel sign-in screen - no problem. When I asked for a password for my roommate, the building manager said "Well, we really only give one login per apartment" So heads-up on this if you do decide to move into this building and have roommates. But really, in this market with all the open rentals, do NOT be swayed by the views. Please please go somewhere else. I'm just waiting for the $1000 carpet charge when I move out and how I plan to fight that. We'll see... |
