Apartment Review for Embassy Apartments - Chicago, IL

Honestly, I wouldn't usually go out of my way to write a rating about an apartment unless I really had a good reason to... Guys this place is fine. Decent price, awesome location, pretty clean, everything works. But when I signed my lease I read a bunch of warnings about the manager Marcel being very rude and mean. I figured at first how bad could he be and honestly who really cares? I was more interested in the apartment apperance and condition then how nice the building manager was. But now I see what people are talking about and wan't to be able to warn you. When I moved in, Marcel reserved the freight elevator for me. The day I got there he told me he had to change my appointment because he needed it for personal reasons. Great when I had just driven a U-haul from San Fran. While trying to move my stuff in one piece at a time using the normal elevator he actually called to have my U-Haul towed because he said it was blocking his alley and he needed it clear. So rather then just asking me to move my truck he calls to have it towed. My gf us to come over almost every night and he use to always ask her why she was at the apartment so much. I explained to him that she was my gf and came over to visit me. After a month of seeing her he said he felt she was at the apartment to much for not being a resident and didn't want her to come by anymore. When I explained she was my gf and just coming to visit, he responded by saying since she is over every night she is considered a resident not a guest and he will increase my rent by $200.00 for having another person. One day I came home from work and found him in my apartment walking through my bedroom. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was searching my place to make sure my gf wasn't there. I didn't realize he even had the right to do that!! Finally, my apartment had a gas leak, so I called hundreds of times, left dozens of messages, and told Marcel at least ten times in person I smelled gas in my kitchen, and everytime I got the same response " ill get to it soon" I explained to him it was not a matter of a broken lock or a window that wont close.... I have a damn gas leak in my kitchen! Took him 2.5 weeks to finally come up and look at it, and when he finally did, he came up with some theory that I used my oven to much which was causing the gas to leak out, and said he was going to file paper work to evict me for violating terms of the lease and not using the oven properly. All I did was make some damn eggs! Really guys when I first read about how mean he was I just though whatever I'll just avoid him and it doesn't matter. But he really truely is just an unhappy mean man, who really really really goes out of his way to cause you problems. I did like the complex though, my advice is if you really are set on this place just always go out and in the back door so you'll never have to see Marcel and he doesn't know you.
